Toni McAlevey, a dedicated CHCC volunteer for many years and a resident of North Haledon, submitted her Grandma’s Ginger Snaps recipe. She and her family started a tradition many years ago making gingerbread houses.

“We would line up long tables in the kitchen, and my children and nieces would have an assembly line, cutting out the patterns and assembling the houses,” said Mrs. McAlevey. “We would have such fun and loved the smell of the ginger. However, when the kids outgrew the tradition of making the houses, I started to make Grandma’s ginger snaps instead. I still enjoy the smell of them baking. I brought some in to for the residents at Heritage Manor and they loved them!”
