The Pastoral Care Department of Christian Health Care Center invites area clergy to Fall Clergy Day Wednesday, November 4, 2015 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. ” Whole and Holy Leadership: Experiencing and Offering the ‘Rest’ of Jesus” will be presented by Rev. Chuck DeGroat, PhD, Associate Professor of Pastoral Care and Counseling, Western Theological Seminary, Michigan; Senior Fellow, Newbigin House of Studies, San Francisco; and Licensed Professional Counselor, Michigan.
Those who help others, pastor, and lead are often frazzled and fragmented, burdened by the toll of caring for others. We are often poor at availing ourselves of the “rest” of Jesus that we commend to others. We feel pulled in a thousand different directions, a resource to others but a stranger to ourselves. Even our attempts to rest do not feel very restful, because we carry the burdens with us. Is there hope for being “whole and holy” as we care for others? Can we enjoy the deep rest of Jesus that we long to offer others? There is hope for wholeness, a wholeness that gathers our fragmented parts together into union with a God who longs to be one with us. Together we explore a hopeful vision for our spiritual and emotional vitality as those who lead and care for others.
A continental breakfast will be available at 8:30 a.m. and lunch service will begin at 12:45 p.m. The morning will be divided into two sessions, with a short refreshment break between.
Please RSVP by Thursday, October 29, 2015, to Diane Cioffi in the Pastoral Care Department at (201) 848-5839 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
