Christian Health Care Center’s Rev. Sandra Masters, MDiv, Honored by Wyckoff Florist & Gifts

Wyckoff, NJ …Wyckoff Florist & Gifts is celebrating 50 years of business by honoring 50 individuals who have demonstrated selfless acts of kindness and service. They will be accepting nominations throughout the rest of the year, and each recipient will receive a bouquet of roses to honor the giving nature of its founder, Rose Fernandez.

Christian Health Care Center (CHCC) in Wyckoff recently nominated employee and Midland Park resident Rev. Sandra Masters, MDiv, Heritage Manor Nursing Home Chaplain, for the award. Serving the community is an important component to not only CHCC, but also to Rev. Masters, who began CHCC’s Faith & Grief monthly luncheons for those mourning a loved one. Originated in Dallas, Texas, the support group was held in churches until Rev. Masters brought it to New Jersey to meet a critical community need. CHCC partners with Valley Hospice to host the luncheons, and CHCC is the first health-care facility to offer this community service.

The luncheons are held the third Wednesday of the month and give members of all faiths an opportunity to gather and strengthen themselves through sharing, scripture, prayer, and reflection. A complementary lunch is also provided.

“The feedback that we’ve received about our Faith & Grief luncheons is that they have been tremendously helpful to those who have attended in their bereavement journey,” said Douglas A. Struyk, CPA, LNHA, CHCC President and CEO. “We are so thankful for the opportunity to meet this important community need and are so proud that Rev. Sandi Masters was selected for this recognition.”

It is clear that this program at CHCC has benefited community members. One Faith & Grief attendee who recently lost a spouse said, “I feel so much better. When I come here, I’m with people who understand.” Another attendee remarked, “This is the first time that I’ve sat down and ate a meal at a table with others since my wife died. It’s been too hard before.” Thanks to Rev. Masters’ efforts, CHCC has added another avenue to provide strength and recovery to those in need, and supports our mission to foster health, healing, and wellness for all ages.

Rev. Masters is the second CHCC employee to be honored for her work in the community. Carol Hertenstein, Utilization Review Director at Ramapo Ridge Psychiatric Hospital, was honored by Wyckoff Florist earlier this year for her work in the establishment of the lecture series “Care Conversations: Our Aging Parents” and by lending a helping hand in times of need.
