Shift/Hours Part-time, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. every other weekend

Job Summary
The primary responsibility of the Activity Assistant is to assist with activities. This entails assisting with planning, developing, and organizing recreational programs in accordance with existing federal, state, and local standards, to assure that the spiritual, emotional, physical, intellectual, recreational, and social needs of the residents are being met on an ongoing, individual basis. Demonstrates an understanding of and embraces assisted-living principles and the mission statement of Christian Health Care Center. COMMUNICATION SKILLS: COMPETENCIES: Demonstrates an understanding of Assisted Living Principles including Resident choice, privacy, independence, dignity in all interactions with resident. (ESSENTIAL; SEVERAL TIMES DAILY) Assists with implementing activity programs. (ESSENTIAL; SEVERAL TIMES DAILY) Demonstrates flexibility/creativity in programming; responds to resident needs and requests. (ESSENTIAL; DAILY) Publicizes programs among the residents and encourages participation. (ESSENTIAL; SEVERAL TIMES DAILY) Assists in maintaining activity equipment. Education High school diploma or equivalent.

Previous Experience
Previous experience in recreational programming. Knowledge of social, psychological, and recreational needs of the aged and cognitively impaired preferred.

Special Skills/Licenses
Valid Driver’s License. Communicates with nursing personnel and other department personnel. Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public. Must possess the ability and willingness to work harmoniously with professional and non-professional personnel. Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents.
