To David Visbeen, serving on the Christian Health Care Center Board of Trustees is about community.
“I’m big on community. The Center is part of the community-at-large, and it’s also its own community. You’re not just a resident or patient or client or consumer here. You are part of the Center’s community. One of my aunts lived alone for so many years before moving to Evergreen Court at CHCC. For the first time, she felt like she was part of a community,” says Mr. Visbeen, who serves as the Assistant Secretary of the board, which is comprised of community volunteers.
Mr. Visbeen, formerly a third-generation member of Visbeen Construction in Ridgewood, grew up in Wyckoff down the street from the Center. His first personal experience with CHCC – and with the ‘construction industry’ – occurred in 1974.
“I spent the summer sweeping floors in Heritage Manor East Nursing Home, a residence which my father helped build. My grandfather was the general contractor for Building 1, and Visbeen Construction has worked on several other projects at the Center over the years. My grandmother was a member of the Center’s Auxiliary. She especially enjoyed being part of the group’s Strawberry Festival,” says Mr. Visbeen, who now serves as Executive Director of Eastern Christian School Foundation. “Years later, I was involved with the pre-construction phase of The Longview Assisted Living Residence. Today, Visbeen Construction is involved with construction of the short-term rehab gym expansion and the Heritage Manor West renovation. I’m proud that my family and the company have been active participants in the Center’s growth.”
Mr. Visbeen was invited to join the CHCC Board of Trustees in 2012.
“CHCC has always been a presence in my life, so I was honored to be asked to join the board,” he says. “The Center’s facilities are second to none. The executive team and the staff, especially the frontline staff, are amazing. What a difference they make in the lives of the residents, patients, and clients. And the community support of the Center is incredible. Look at how many volunteer hours are logged every year. There are not many organizations with such wonderful assets.”
In addition to his service to the CHCC board, Mr. Visbeen, along with his wife Cynthia and Bernie M. Flynn, President and CEO of NJM Insurance Group, served as Co-chairs of the Center’s 2014 A Celebration of Excellence. Christian Health Care Center presented Garry and Raeann Dykhouse and Kuiken Brothers Company Inc. with the David F. Bolger Award for Service and Leadership.
“I am proud to help the Center and to be part of such a caring and professional organization,” Mr. Visbeen says.
