The season of giving never ends for Betty Gower. Every month for the past 12 years, the Hawthorne resident has made a donation to Christian Health Care Center.
“My mom, Nellie Kunis, was a resident at Heritage Manor Nursing Home. I had donated to the Center before she passed away in 2001, but after she died I started contributing on a monthly basis,” Mrs. Gower says. “She was treated so well.”
Mrs. Gower’s family roots with Christian Health Care Center also influence her support. Several relatives, including Dr. and Mrs. Anthony Van Grouw Jr., MD, are associated with the Center’s history.
“Dr. Van Grouw served on the board of trustees for more than three decades. His wife Jan is my cousin,” Mrs. Gower explains. “The Center has always been a part of my life.”
Mrs. Gower’s family connection continues today: Her sister and nephew are now Heritage Manor residents.
“I can’t say enough about the care my family has received,” she says. “I appreciate everything that the Center did for my mother and does now for my sister and nephew, so I want to keep giving as long as I can. Perhaps by donating regularly I can help others receive the wonderful care that my family has.”
